General Accountant

JOB PURPOSE

As a member of the Accounting & Finance Team, the FPA Accountant provides support to the department by performing various tasks related to efficient financial reporting and accounting operations.  The role is part of a team of professionals who work together to achieve complete, accurate, and timely financial reporting; improved systems and controls; and optimized profitability for the Company.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Daily / Weekly

  • Prepare bank reconciliations for assigned accounts / currencies
  • Reconcile intercompany balances between HQ and regions
  • Prepare / advise regions of required journal entries resulting from intercompany and bank reconciliations
  • Cash position posting and reporting to Treasury


Monthly

  • Closing month and booking standard JEs per month end closing procedure
  • Complete various assigned Balance Sheet account reconciliations including variance analysis to Plan
  • Assist Manger, Financial Reporting with month-end process to close
  • liaise with other departments, accountants, managers, controllers to maintain an accurate and transparent accounting process.
  • Prepare HST filings

  

Quarter- and Year-End and Other Duties

  • Complete bank and tax supporting documentation packages
  • Assist with the audit processes through the preparation and compilation of the working papers and financial statements in addition to helping resolve external audit queries.
  • Analyze and provide support for projects identified by Manager, Financial Reporting
  • Provides assistance, as requested, to the annual Planning and periodic re-forecasting processes, including variance analysis.
  • Assists or completes ad hoc projects assigned by Manager, Financial Reporting, including assisting with the research, development and implementation of emerging technical accounting requirements or processes, to ensure compliance with current IFRS standards and preparedness for any changes to such standards in the future.
  • Fills in and performs duties of AR or AP clerk in his/her absence or vacation
  • Other FPA Accounting Duties as Assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • pursuing an Accounting Designation
  • 2-3 years related experience in Accounting, Analysis, and Reporting under IFRS
  • Related experience in real estate development / operations environments
  • Experience with ERP implementation
  • Advanced working knowledge with Microsoft Excel
