Solar Drafting Technician

We are currently seeking a Solar Drafting Technician to support engineering staff with the development, design, review and implementation of commercial and utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage (BESS) systems.


  • Prepare interconnection level and permit level CAD Site Plans for Amp's projects.
  • Prepare interconnection level and permit level electrical CAD designs and drawings (Single Line Diagram, Three Line Diagram). 
  • Assist with electrical drafting in cooperation with electrical engineers. 
  • Conduct yield assessments using PV Syst to identify annual expected energy production. 
  • Operate computer-assisted design (CAD) and drafting workstations. 
  • Complete documentation packages and produce drawing sets.
  • Check and verify design drawings to conform to specifications and design data.
  • Develop drawing templates, and design automation tools.
  • Interface with external electrical, civil, structural and mechanical consultants.
  • Assist with PV system design, including component selection, module string sizing, conductor and conduit sizing, etc.
  • Provide recommendations for continuous improvements in project designs, plans, processes and product deployment.


  • 1-3 years of design experience in a professional environment
  • A minimum of a College Diploma (Technician or Technology).
  • Prior experience designing solar / electrical projects is highly desired. 
  • Experience with electro-mechanical technology and/or civil engineering an asset
  • Prior experience with commercial scale Solar PV projects is desired.
  • Prior experience with the Interconnection Applications is an asset. 
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings is mandatory
  • Strong technical aptitude with ability to deliver creative solutions
  • Superior attention to detail is a must, as well as demonstrated pride in work.
  • Ability to gather and analyze facts, draw conclusions, define problems, and suggest solutions.
  • Familiarity with key components of a solar installation
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D (Design and Drafting) and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to create 3D surfaces in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Excellent IT skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, including proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook and MS Powerpoint required.
  • Working knowledge of power generation tools such as PV Syst is desired
  • Self-motivated and committed to excellence, with a ‘do whatever it takes’ positive attitude.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team.
  • Proven track record in customer care and a proactive attitude to problem solving and an ability to perform in a fast pace environment.
