Amp is seeking an Energy Asset Optimization Specialist who is eager to contribute his/her expertise in the Energy Industry to support cost-effective energy system projects across the globe, with particular emphasis on the markets where Amp is active today, including the US, Canada, UK, Japan, Australia, and India.


The Energy System Optimization Specialist has responsibilities to analyze, assess and understand various electricity markets in several jurisdictions sufficient to identify and model the corresponding optimal technology and dispatch strategy. The successful candidate will act as the technical expert in matters related to system optimization, design, and engineering, of clean-energy assets encompassing solar PV, energy storage, microgrids, and other forms of DG in a variety of applications. The successful candidate has a working knowledge of optimization theory, programming, and implantation, energy system design, power electronic component selection, and control and dispatch systems. He/she proactively drives Amp pursuits to maximize the revenue from clean-energy projects while maintaining system operations within technical and financial constraints imposed by OEM specifications, wholesale market regulations, and other project objectives.

  • Research the rules and regulation of various electricity markets (including wholesale) in different jurisdictions in North America to determine revenue streams of clean-energy assets and use the findings to build optimal dispatch models
  • Develop classical large-scale optimization models (preferably linear programming) in a high-level computer language (preferably MATLAB) to schedule clean-energy resources for maximum revenue
  • Generate, verify, maintain, and use results from the optimization models for further technical and financial analyses as needed
  • Maintain a repository for all developed models in different markets under different assumptions and present their results to different individuals and teams both internally and externally
  • Size and design the energy storage components of clean-energy systems
  • Compare offerings of different equipment suppliers and select best components to serve the operational objectives based on the optimization results and the technical specifications of such components
  • Review engineering documents and drawings provided by EPC partners throughout the project development cycle until commissioning and operation to ensure that the energy systems will achieve the maximum revenue as determined through the design and optimization phases
  • Support the project delivery team in various technical and commercial discussions with equipment suppliers and in various due diligence activities at different stages of the project including planning, contracting, installation, commissioning, testing, and operation
  • Support the business origination team by providing the necessary technical inputs to present solution offerings with clear value propositions to different types of clients
  • Support the investment team by providing the necessary technical inputs and optimization model results needed to build financial models of different architectures of clean-energy assets
  • Support the development team by providing optimal sizing and optimal dispatch profiles for the clean-energy assets at the planning stage of the projects
  • Support the asset management team by determining technical requirements of asset management platforms and best ways to present performance and revenue reports
  • Support the decision-making process and risk mitigation plans related to technical issues at the component and system level with focus on the ability to achieve maximum revenue within the operational constraints
  • Support senior management and various Amp entities and teams on a variety of other duties as needed.


  • 3+ years of professional experience involved in traditional large-scale non-heuristic optimization problem solutions via linear and non-linear programming techniques, preferably with emphasis on power and energy system optimization. Preference will be given to candidates who have a working experience with MATLAB and/or Python.
  • Professional level of using spreadsheets to analyze complicated energy problems and generate results to present them in different format with internal and external teams
  • Ability to read, comprehend, interpret, and communicate the rules and regulations of wholesale electricity markets in different jurisdictions in North America, determine various revenue streams of clean-energy assets in the designated markets, and use the findings in developing optimization models to schedule the energy assets to maximize their revenue for planning purposes as well as day-ahead and real-time dispatch purposes
  • Professional level of understanding of the operation of utility-scale clean-energy assets including, but not limited to, electric vehicle charges, solar photovoltaic systems, wind generators, and various energy storage technologies such as lithium-ion batteries, flow batteries, hydrogen generators, fuel cells, etc.
  • Professional level of understanding of the concepts of power and energy systems at the generation, transmission, distribution, utilization, and microgrid levels
  • Familiarity with the utility procedures for interconnection of utility-scale clean-energy projects at the transmission, distribution, or behind-the-meter level in different North American jurisdictions is an asset
  • Familiarity with the different development stages of clean-energy projects from planning to operation is an asset.
  • MSc in Electrical Engineering or closely related field, preferably with emphasis on power and energy system optimization – PhD is an asset
  • Registered or eligible to be registered with a North American professional engineering association.
  • Highly organized and skillful at working on multiple projects simultaneously with the ability to prioritize multiple and often competing activities
  • Self-motivated and committed to excellence, with a ‘can do’ positive attitude
  • Takes initiative to explore new opportunities and ways to improve both self-performance and AMP’s effectiveness
