Project Engineer


Amp Energy is seeking a Melbourne based Project Engineer. The Project Engineer role will lead engineering aspects of Amp’s renewable energy projects, ensuring implementation is in accordance with best industry practices, and local and international standards. The Project Engineer works closely with EPC Contractors and TNSPs to ensure engineering and commercial aspects of the projects are addressed in a timely and detailed manner .

  • Lead engineering aspects of projects to ensure best industry practices across local and international standards.
  • Provide sound project engineering advice, knowledge of the relevant Australian Standards, codes and installation regulations.
  • Support key engineering contractors and consultants through project delivery.
  • Manage engineering designs and specifications of renewable energy projects.
  • Manage and supervise the external technical consultants (i.e. Owners Engineer & Lender Technical Advisors).
  • Working with stakeholders to coordinate construction engineering activities to ensure projects are implemented in accordance with plans, designs and specifications.
  • Oversee engineering aspects of delivery projects including preliminary drawings, technical specifications, project engineering scope of work and work packages. 
  • Supervise and guide EPC Contractor’s design and engineering activities to ensure engineering designs and construction activities comply with local Australian Standards.
  • Manage and Coordinate EPC Contractor’s design review workshops (i.e. 30%, 60% & amp; IFC Design Reviews) and Safety in Design (SID) workshops. 
  • Maintain relationships with the authorities, equipment manufacturers, construction contractors, consultants, TNSPs, AEMO the community and landowners. 
  • Participate in monthly progress meetings with the TNSP and EPC Contractor.
  • Design liaison between TNSP and the EPC Contractor for HV Contestable design scope.
  • Attend EPC Contractors weekly and monthly progress meetings, and provide key project inputs and draft weekly and monthly internal reports to the Head of Development and Construction. 
  • Coordinate, manage and submit the AEMO Generator Registration for Amp projects in Australia. 
  • Oversee the EPC contractor’s project QA and QC. Prepare and submit Non-Conformance Reports, QA/QC Status Reports, RFIs and Defects Inspections. 
  • Prepare, manage and maintain the internal risk registers for each project
Any other job-related duties and/or projects that may be assigned.


The ideal candidate will have an academic background in one of the following engineering disciplines: Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, Power, Renewable Energy or related discipline. The role requires a proactive, outgoing, inquisitive and flexible mindset with an ability to work in a small focused team. Desired qualifications and personal attributes include:

  • Strong academic background
  • Experience with in the renewable energy sector
  • Large-scale or commercial roof top solar experience
  • Experience in the management of construction contracts with proven track record in delivering major projects / complex multidisciplinary projects, preferably in power generation industry
  • Strong industry relationships will be highly valued
  • Sound knowledge of the processes and procedures for developing and utilizing engineering design specifications
  • Well-developed time management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels in an organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Project management experience on medium to large construction projects
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with excellent analytical skills
  • Practical and commercial approach
  • Ability to manage multiple competing and shifting priorities
  • Team player able to thrive and grow in an ever-changing energy market
  • Be an Australian resident or citizen or have the ability to work long term in Australia without sponsorship
